How To Clean A Bathtub Quickly

How to clean a bathtub

Owning a bathtub is like owning a little piece of heaven whenever you need a well-deserved break from the daily hustle and bustle. That’s why when you get to your bathtub and find it dirty and stained, the frustration comes real quickly. The smart option is to keep your bathtub spotless at all times, but what’s the right way to do it? Down below, you’ll find some easy steps so you can clean your bathtub and leave it shining!

Step #1. Prep the tub

First things first, clear out your tub completely. Get rid of all the soap bars, shampoos, and bath stuff—even curtains or tub mats, as they’ll just get in the way. Once the bathtub is empty, wet its surface with warm water to loosen up the grime. And if the outside needs some love, give it a quick wipe with a damp cloth.

Pro-tip: Save your knees by using a mat or knee pads while you scrub—it’ll spare you the discomfort!

Step #2. DIY cleaner time

Save yourself some time and money by doing a cleaning solution from the comfort of your home. The cleaner you’ll need will depend on your tub’s material. Check them out:

  • For ceramic, porcelain, or acrylic tubs. Make a mix of warm water and a spritz of mild detergent in a small bowl.
  • For fiberglass. Mix one cup of water and ¼ cup of vinegar in a spray bottle.
  • For stone resin. Create your cleaning solution in a bowl, mixing 1⅔ cup baking soda, ½ cup vegetable oil-based liquid soap, ½ cup water, and 2 tablespoons vinegar.

Step #3. Tackle the grime

The way you take out the dirt in your bathtub is also different depending on the type of tub you have.

  • For ceramic, porcelain, or acrylic. Wipe the dirt away with your DIY cleaner and a kitchen sponge. Tough stains? Hit them with the rough side of the sponge.
  • For fiberglass. Spritz your vinegar solution all over the bathtub, let it sit for at least five minutes, then wipe it clean with a cloth. Stubborn spots might need some extra elbow grease.
  • For stone resin. Apply your homemade solution with a cloth using circular motions throughout the tub. Rinse and repeat if needed.

Step #4. Tackle the drain

A gunky drain is a moldy, stinky disaster waiting to happen. And it might even clog up if it goes too long without cleaning. So, start cleaning it by pouring some hot water down there (carefully!). Follow it up with a sprinkle of baking soda and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then, pour in hot vinegar to dissolve the gunk. Finish off with more hot water for a squeaky-clean drain.

Pro-tip: Use a funnel to pour hot stuff down the drain and avoid any accidents.

Step #5. Rinse and dry

Before calling it quits, rinse your tub with warm water to get rid of any leftover grime. Don’t forget to dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth—moisture in imperceptible tiny cracks can lead to mold over time.
